Mitie wins two multimillion pound contracts with National Grid
- Mitie has secured two new multimillion pound contracts to deliver hard and soft facilities management services for National Grid, the owner of the UK’s electricity network
- During the five-year contracts, Mitie will provide a range of services including engineering, maintenance, asset management, cleaning, security, and project work
- Mitie will deliver these services at over 260 sites nationwide
Mitie has been awarded two new multimillion pound contracts to deliver hard and soft facilities management (FM) services for National Grid. With an initial term of five years, and the option to extend for up to three more years, Mitie will provide FM services to over 260 sites across the UK.
National Grid is the owner of the UK’s electricity network, using energy generated from wind farms and other power sources, and transporting it through pylons, overhead lines, cables and substations to power local networks, directly connecting British homes and businesses.
Under the contracts, Mitie will provide National Grid with a suite of FM services, including engineering, planned and reactive maintenance, adverse weather provision (such as gritting services), security and cleaning, as well as additional project works. Covering five core offices, including its headquarters in Warwick, together with more than 260 operational sites, Mitie will deliver this fully integrated service across the full scope of National Grid’s estate.
Mitie engineers will maintain National Grid facilities around the clock, 365 days a year. This work will help support and protect the transmission of essential electricity to millions of homes and buildings nationwide.
Through its ‘Science of Service’ initiatives, Mitie will be offering its industry-leading technology to National Grid. For example, its Merlin app will provide Security Officers with real time insights and updates to their mobile devices on relevant security issues including intelligence from a team of specialist Security Analysts based in Mitie’s Intelligence Security Operations Centre (ISOC) in Northampton.
Mitie’s decarbonisation capabilities will also support National Grid’s net zero goals, including the appointment of a designated Plan Zero Energy Manager who will be responsible for conducting audits across National Grid sites to identify energy savings opportunities. Mitie colleagues will also use electric vehicles wherever possible across the contracts. All Mitie colleagues working on the contract will be paid at least the Real Living Wage.
Simon Venn, Managing Director, Technical Services, Mitie, said:
“With our specialist expertise working in highly regulated environments, we’re pleased to be working with National Grid to protect and maintain their estate. We’re proud that our work on these contracts will support National Grid in powering millions of homes across the country as well as enhancing its net zero journey.”
Prem Gabbi, Director of UK Land and Property at National Grid, said:
“Working together with our supply chain, we are embedding a results-driven culture as we strive to continue delivering for our customers and achieving our ambitious targets around net zero and the clean energy transition.
“We look forward to strengthening this new relationship with Mitie as we provide each of our 6,500 UK colleagues with a modern, collaborative workplace experience in our offices, and enable wider National Grid to keep the lights on and the energy flowing for millions of British households.”
